Circumcision

Meatal Stenosis

Meatal stenosis is a narrowing at the opening of the urethra, at the tip of the penis, which can prevent the urine from coming out easily.

Phimosis

Phimosis occurs when the foreskin (skin covering the head of the penis) is tight and cannot be retracted. Before age 6, this can be normal. However, if it is associated with pain or infection, or does not resolve on its own by age 6, treatment may be necessary.

Balanitis and Posthitis

These are conditions where the head of the penis and/or the foreskin are red/inflamed and painful. It only occurs in uncircumcised boys, and is associated with a tightness of the foreskin, where urine is often trapped.

Chordee, penile torsion, penile angulation

Chordee: When the penis is curved downward, often (but not always), associated with hypospadias as well as an incomplete foreskin
Penile torsion: When the penis is twisted
Penile angulation: When the penis is bent to the side

Hypospadias

Hypospadias is a condition where the hole in the penis is not at the tip of the penis, but rather somewhere on the underside of the shaft or scrotum. It is typically associated with an incomplete foreskin and a downward curvature of the penis (chordee).

This is a condition where skin from the scrotum is attached to the shaft on the underside of the penis.

Varicocele

A varicocele occurs when the veins inside the scrotum become enlarged. Varicoceles usually form around puberty and occur in about 15% of men. However, only 15% of men with varicoceles require surgery1. Varicoceles usually occur on the left side, but they can occur on either side.

A hydrocele is a collection of fluids around the testicle. A baby can be born with a hydrocele, or a hydrocele can form later in life.

The term neurogenic bladder is used to describe several bladder issues that can be caused by a neurological problem, such as spina bifida, tethered cord or a spinal cord injury. The bladder issues can vary, but can include problems with holding urine, emptying the bladder and recurrent urinary tract infections.

Hydronephrosis

Hydronephrosis is the swelling of the collecting system of one or both kidneys. Hydronephrosis itself is not a disease of the kidney, but it can be a sign of an underlying problem with the kidney.

Ureteropelvic Junction Obstruction

A UPJ obstruction occurs when there is a blockage between the kidney and ureter. This can slow the kidney鈥檚 ability to drain urine.
